Choosing The Right Sofa Bed

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

There are all sorts of reasons why you might want to buy a sofa bed. Lack of space is the most common reason though. If you’re thinking of buying one what should you take in to consideration before you make the actual purchase? Taking your time to decide exactly what you want is always a good thing.

Something to consider is the look of your sofa bed. It wasn’t so long ago that sofa beds always looked like sofa beds which made them stand out in your typical living room. Now this has changed and you get anything from a black leather sofa bed to a modern looking corner sofa with additional storage underneath for keeping the bedding in. And if you hanker after a traditional look there are plenty of those around too.

But which room are you going to put it in. Is it going in your living room, a spare bed room, a study? If the room is very small and it’s only going to be used occasionally then a small sofa with a fold out foam mattress may be all that you need. Not the most comfortable of beds but they do the job for the occasional person sleeping over.

For a bigger room, like a living room, you might want something a lot bigger and better made but you’ll need to make sure it’s not too big for the room when used as a bed. Some styles drop the sofa back down to make the mattress. This means that if you’ve place the sofa bed right in front of a wall you’ll have to pull the sofa forward every time you want to use the bed. If the bed is going to be utilised on a regular basis then this could become a tiresome chore. So measure up before you go ahead and buy.Don’t forget that a leather sofa bed is ideal in a bigger room.

Sofa beds are a real boon for those of us who have limited space of not as many bedrooms as we’d like. With so much choice around you can easily find one to fit your requirements, how ever exacting.

All About Futons

Sunday, February 21st, 2010

Futons have become extremely popular lately, as people have begun to understand and appreciate their style and versatility. Still, they are unknown concept to lots of people…

Futons are a traditional form of Japanese bedding that consist of comfortable padded mattresses and quilts which can be easily folded and stored when not in use. Since space is often limited in Japan, futons are still widely used in this manner in Japanese homes.

Since their introduction to the West, the use of futons has evolved from just being something to sleep on. They now typically have adjustable frames, which means that as well as beds, they can be used as sofas or chairs.

Their versatility is a major advantage that futons have over other pieces of furniture. As one futon can function in different roles, it means that those who have them do not need to buy as many pieces of furniture as they would otherwise need.

They can be used anywhere, though they are most practical in situations where one wants to save on space or maximize economy. Their ability to convert to a bed, chair of sofa depending on the situation makes them especially ideal for guests or that extra room that sees various uses.

Changing their form or moving them from one room to another is easy enough because they can easily be taken apart. This flexibility also makes them hassle free to clean, as a standard washing machine is big enough for the broken down parts to fit within.

In terms of style, all types of colored and patterned futons are available. Even better, the covers on most of them can simply be changed over should you feel like changing the look of them every now and again.

Futons can be filled with various materials depending on the use and preferences of the buyer. Cotton padding was the original material used for most futons, and it still has a wide following. Since it is soft and conforms to the user, it is very comfortable.

Cotton with wool and / or polyester added is an option, as is a foam filled futon. Being both lightweight and dense, foam offers a comfortable, firm and durable futon – these are probably the most popular ones.

Those who want something with a little more of a traditional feel are catered for too, as futons with innersprings are also available. These still have built in hinges for flexibility, so they are a perfect hybrid between a ‘normal’ sofa or bed and a futon.

With all of these benefits in mind, it is not hard to understand why futons are one of the most sought after pieces of furniture right now, especially when the fact that they cost less than comparable pieces of furniture is factored in too.

Futons For Sale‘ offers a wealth of information on futons. You can find a futon mattress full, a futon style bed or sofa, and a wide range of matching accessories.
