At the end of the day, you both have to feel comfortable on the mattress so you should go and buy it together. Lie down on the bed to see how comfortable it is, don’t just lie on it for a second or so, should lie on it for a few minutes to see if you really like it.

When you go and try out mattresses wear comfortable clothes and take off your jacket as this will give you an authentic feeling of being at home with the mattress and will allow you to get a better understanding of whether the mattress will be ok or not. Move around on the bed to make sure you feel comfortable on it, it won’t be exactly like sleeping at home but it will be close enough.

Size does matter when it comes to choosing the size of the mattress. Whether you share a double or single beds with a partner you should be able to lie side to side with your arms behind your head and your arms out without touching. If a partner is taller than six feet they will likely need a longer than standard mattress, there should always be four inches of space left at the bottom of the bed.
